UB BSEd Program Fosters a Culture of Support for LET Takers: LET 2023 Takers Extend Mentorship to LET 2024 Candidates

As the September 2024 LET review commenced, many felt the pressure of the fast-approaching day of the exam. However, the University of Baguio’s Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Program has long started with helping its students prepare, as LET 2023 takers engage in mentorship aimed at facilitating the preparation of LET 2024 candidates for the forthcoming licensure examination.

On September 25, 2023, in a demonstration of academic unity and communal engagement, alumni hailing from the University of Baguio’s Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Program, who successfully took the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) in September 2023 served as mentors to guide and fortify the upcoming cohort of LET examinees for September 2024.

The mentorship session was facilitated by model alumni students, including Eunice D. Malabago, a BSEd-Math Major; Justine Eillene Bienes, a BSEd-Filipino Major; and Sheril-Ann C. Cayaro, a BSEd-Social Science Major, all of whom are now Licensed Professional Teachers. Their expertise and experience further enriched the mentorship program, providing invaluable guidance to LET 2024 candidates.

The most significant aspect of the session was the sharing of first-hand experiences by the alumni, which the future LET takers easily connected with. Their practical narratives illuminated strategies for optimal performance on the examination day, offering insights on how to excel. The sessions included discussions on tackling trick questions, deriving the best answers efficiently, providing tips, and instilling the understanding that LET preparation starts from the beginning of enrollment in the BSEd program. Some of the tips include taking care of one’s health first and eating before the exam, which is often disregarded but essential to making sure that an exam taker is at his best on a very important day.

In an exclusive interview, John Rexer Agtani, a 4th-year BSEd-English student, reflected on the impact of the coaching session, stating, “Preparing for the LET can be quite frustrating sometimes. Given the fact that we will take 3 parts of the exam, which are the General Ed, ProfEd, and, of course, our major. However, I can say that the coaching session really helped a lot.” Agtani further emphasized, “The coaching session made me realize there are still many concepts and questions I do not know yet. That is why I have to make extra efforts.”

The success of the mentorship session owes much to the visionary leadership of Dr. Dahlia Soriano, the BSEd Program Chair, whose commitment to educational excellence continues to elevate the University of Baguio’s stature in the field of education.
