School of Teacher Education & Liberal Arts
The School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) is the home for students who want to make language and literature, political science, psychology, humanities and music, and communication their main field of study. Future early childhood and adolescent educators and instructors are also housed in STELA. Our alumni used their BA and BS programs to study law and medicine, while some have furthered their studies with related MA and PhD degrees!
Programs Offered
Boasting alumni with national and international recognition in education and the arts, language and literature, humanities and social sciences, students at the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts are armed with research inquiry and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative approaches to pedagogical, sociopolitical, and cultural fields of study.
Bachelor of Arts in Communication
A degree program that trains students to become effective communicators who can create, deliver, and evaluate messages in various contexts. The program covers various areas such as interpersonal communication, public speaking, journalism, and media studies. Students gain practical experience through internships, media production, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Arts in English Language
A degree program that focuses on the study of the English language, its literature, and its cultural significance. The program covers various areas such as English grammar, linguistics, creative writing, and literary analysis. Students gain practical experience through writing workshops, literary events, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Arts in Music
A degree program that trains students in the theory, performance, and history of music. The program covers various areas such as music theory, ear training, music history, and performance on various musical instruments. Students gain practical experience through ensemble performances, concerts, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
A degree program that studies the theory and practice of politics and government. The program covers various areas such as political theory, international relations, comparative politics, and public policy. Students gain practical experience through internships, research projects, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Elementary Education
A degree program that prepares students to become licensed elementary school teachers. The program covers various areas such as child development, pedagogy, curriculum design, and classroom management. Students gain practical experience through teaching practicums, classroom observations, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Physical Education
A degree program that focuses on the study of physical activity and its effects on health and wellness. The program covers various areas such as exercise physiology, kinesiology, sports psychology, and biomechanics. Students gain practical experience through coaching practicums, sports clinics, and other hands-on learning opportunities.
