The University of Baguio once again demonstrated its academic prowess as three students from the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) represented the university in the Intellectual Property C.I.R.C.L.E Quiz Bee, held on November 12, 2025, at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) in Taguig City.
The competition, which centered on Intellectual Property (IP) Law, encompassing the application of legal principles and international conventions and treaties, attracted the largest number of participants since its inception, with 22 universities and colleges competing from across the Philippines—ranging from the Mountain Province of Luzon to the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Among the participating institutions were renowned universities such as Ateneo de Manila University, National University, University of the Asia Pacific and De La Salle University, rendering the event a gathering of some of the most brilliant young legal and policy minds in the country.

Representing the University of Baguio were three Bachelor of Arts in Political Science students from the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts-Ms. Melmar Joy T. Bas-awan, Mr. Arjay L. Dalubatan and Ms. Agape Vivien H. Garcia-under the guidance of their coach, Mr. Jose C. Dela Cruz Jr.. Competing alongside participants from diverse disciplines, including Law, Engineering, and Political Science, the UB team displayed not only sharp intellect but also remarkable teamwork, grit, and unwavering composure under immense pressure. Their calm yet strategic collaboration during tight rounds exemplified the kind of character and discipline UB continually strives to instill in its students.
The contest was divided into three rounds: Preliminaries, Semifinals, and Finals. Out of the 22 participating schools, only the top 10 advanced beyond the preliminary stage. The University of Baguio secured the 7th spot, ensuring their place in the semifinals. The tension heightened as several rounds required clincher questions and even a toss coin to break ties, demonstrating the fierce and closely matched nature of the competitors.
Following an intense semifinal round, the University of Baguio advanced to the finals, joining the ranks of the University of the Philippines Manila College of Law, Pampanga State University School of Law, Mindanao State University–Marawi, and Mountain Province State University.

The final round combined intellect and strategy. Modeled after a Jeopardy-style format, it required teams not only to answer complex questions but also to employ tactical decision-making. Some questions carried varying point values, and in later segments, teams were even given the powers to block opponents or deduct points, adding an exciting strategic layer to the already challenging contest. Ultimately, the University of Baguio proudly finished as 3rd Runner-Up, a remarkable achievement considering the level of competition and prestige of the participating schools.
For the University of Baguio team, the experience was both unforgettable and empowering. This achievement is a testament that we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with big names in academic competitions nationwide.
The University of Baguio extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Intellectual Property Office and the organizers of the IP Circle Quiz Bee for providing a platform that celebrates academic excellence and promotes awareness of intellectual property law among future professionals.
Through their perseverance and passion, Ms. Melmar Joy T. Bas-awan, Mr. Arjay L. Dalubatan and Ms. Agape Vivien H. Garcia not only brought pride to our University but also inspired fellow students to pursue excellence, proving once again that the spirit of a true UBian knows no bounds.
