BA COMM’s SINERANYAG Film Festival 2025: A debut of mobile filmmaking

The Sineranyag Film Festival 2025, hosted by The Mediatrix Society at the UB Centennial Hall, celebrated creativity and storytelling with films from BA Communication students. Highlighting the debut of Mobile Filmmaking by the KDE class, the event proved that powerful stories can be told even with limited tools. With films like Ika-Limang Litrato Sa El Corazon, San Damiano, and 30, this year’s festival honored passion, innovation, and the future of filmmaking at UB.

The Sineranyag Film Festival 2025 held at the University of Baguio Centennial Hall and hosted by The Mediatrix Society, was a remarkable film showcase of creativity and storytelling. This year’s Film Festival featured the previous 3rd year’s work from the course Introduction to Film (INTFLM1) of Dr. Cesar Liwanag.

What made this year’s event truly special was the debut of Mobile Filmmaking from the KDE Class, making them the first ever to create a film using Mobile Phones. Despite being accustomed to professional filmmaking equipment, these students embraced the challenge and proved the wonderful storytelling despite technical limitations. The festival featured not two, but three films under the genre of, Romance, Horror, and Crime;

  • Ika-Limang Litrato Sa El Corazon –  Directed by Steve Coyugan
  • San Damiano – Directed by Jerusalem Viado
  • 30 – Directed by Rayjan James Ebba

Our esteemed judges Tiara Angelia Nicolas, Dr. Cesar Liwanag, Sir Raymond Sakiwat, and Director Ferdinand Balanag lent their expertise in evaluating the films. Media outlets were also invited to feature the event, RNG Luzon and PTV Cordillera.

This event is not just a celebration of the films, but a tribute to the dedication, passion and perseverance of those people who have exerted their time and expertise behind each film. The event stands as an inspiration and motivation for the aspiring storytellers and filmmakers of the BA Communication program.

As applause filled the hall from left and right, the students of the BA Communication were encouraged to dream bigger, be motivated, and be inspired to create and explore more creative activities. The event not only gave the students a chance to showcase their artwork but also became a platform for mobile filmmaking for future Directors. The Festival left a reminder to everyone that it is not just about the equipment,  it’s about the story and the dedication to create.
