The Magic Within The Stelalympics 2023

The Stelalympics is an annually held event; however, it was halted for three consecutive years due to COVID-19 restrictions. Fortunately, on November 8, 2023, the big event resumed after a three-year hiatus. The Stelalympics is not only a showcase of physical capabilities; it’s a testament to the power of unity, teamwork, and healthy competition.

As students and faculty come together on the court, the gymnasium transforms into a hub of excitement and friendly rivalry. The theme for Stelalympics in 2023 was inspired by Harry Potter, creating magic with Filipino Culture and reviving it through “Larong Lahi”, with the students being divided into four groups: Slytherin (green team), Gryffindor (red team), Hufflepuff (yellow team), and Ravenclaw (blue team).

The students were welcomed by Ms. Yvonne Rocha, SAC STELA Vice Governor, emphasizing unity, resilience, and Filipino traditional games during her warm opening remarks. Next, Mr. Erjay Lerio guided the students for the Athletes’ Oath. Then, the Indak STELA (the official dance troupe of STELA) rendered a wonderful performance. Stelalympics was hosted by Mr. Yno Soltez – Mr. STELA, Ms. Laurence Sabado – Ms. STELA, and Mr. Bonomar Apuyod Jr. – SSC secretary.

As an official start, the students crafted their cheers connected with their houses (Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw). After that, a dance exercise was conducted led by the Bachelor of Physical Education. Then, different “Larong Lahi” were played, including Bato-Bato Pick, Chinese Garter, Pinoy Henyo, Limbo Rock, Kadang-Kadang, Sipa, Sack Race, Tumbang Preso, and Touch The Body. “Larong Lahi” serves as a refreshing alternative that encourages physical activity and social interaction. Beyond the joyful moments of sports, these traditional Filipino games create diversity, promoting physical well-being, teamwork, and a connection to the roots of Filipino identity. A series of performances by Gieyen Tumale for the participants was also witnessed during the event.

Before the Stelalympics ended the overall champion was announced, with none other than Ravenclaw (blue team) garnering first place, followed by Hufflepuff (yellow team) as first runner-up, Gryffindor (red team) as second runner-up, and Slytherin (green team) as third runner-up. The Stelalympics encapsulates the essence of unity, camaraderie, and the enduring spirit of sportsmanship, leaving an indelible mark on the collective memory of the studentry with Filipino culture.
