UB Community Partners with JHMC for Fire Line and Plogging Activity

The Research Innovation Extension and Community Outreach (RIECO), in partnership with the John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC), initiated a Fire Line and Plogging Activity on March 14, 2026.

Participants included representatives from the School of International Hospitality and Tourism Management (SIHTM), School of Dentistry (SOD), University of Baguio Laboratory Elementary School Faculty (UB LES), School of Engineering and Architecture (SEA), School of Information Technology (SIT), and the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA).

The plogging, a coined word combining picking up litter and jogging, started from Camp John Hay, trailing to the Camp John Hay Reservation area in Lower Dagsian, where the fire line activity started.

Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Donnavila Marie Panday-Herbster, followed by an orientation on the Environmental Education Campaign conducted by Mr. Chris Haban.

The School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts had representatives from each organization: Jana Mae Baya, Kristine Gabrielle Banggawan, Freddie Jr. Bayangan, Beatrice Mae Caranto, Jan Michael Dangatan, Ma. Mercedes Luisa Kilaan, Jesusa Ceilo Layug, Emy Lawek, Tyrone James Ramos, and Moya Princess Seriosa.

This activity is in line with SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), which promote environmental protection and collaboration among organizations to achieve sustainable development.

The activity strengthened environmental awareness and community cooperation among participants while promoting sustainable practices in protecting forest areas.
