Seminar on “Understanding Students with Disabilities in the Classroom” Empowers Future Educators

Future educators from BSED and BEED programs participated in a seminar on inclusive education, led by expert speaker Mr. McDowell P. Agwayaway, to better understand and support students with disabilities in the classroom.

UB Centennial Library, August 2, 2024 – The University of Baguio hosted a vital seminar titled “Understanding Students with Disabilities in the Classroom” on August 2, 2024, aimed at preparing future educators for the challenges and rewards of teaching students with disabilities. Held from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the UB Centennial Library, the seminar was specifically designed for incoming field study students from the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) programs. The event served as a crucial preparatory step for their upcoming practical deployments in cooperating schools.

This initiative was a collaborative effort between the BSED program and the University of Baguio’s Graduate School, particularly its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in Development Education. It was well-attended by current students, alumni, and teachers, whose participation added valuable insights and real-world perspectives on inclusive education.

One of the seminar’s key highlights was the invaluable contribution of resource speaker Mr. McDowell P. Agwayaway, a PhD student at the University of Baguio Graduate School. Mr. Agwayaway, an experienced educational diagnostician and special education teacher, shared his expertise on personalized learning and inclusive education. His presentation, shaped by both academic rigor and practical experience, gave attendees a deeper understanding of how to adapt teaching methods to cater to diverse learning needs.

This seminar not only bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application but also emphasized the importance of equipping future educators with the tools to foster inclusive classrooms.
