Steadfast to its mission of creating a dynamic academic environment for the development of globally competitive professionals, the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts expands the inclusion of its Alumni in its back-to- back 2nd STELA Colloquium and EmpowerED: A One-Week Intensive Licensure Exam Preparation Outreach for Aspiring Teachers last September 14, 2024 at the UB- Centennial Building.

Three Alumni generously shared their wisdom as they facilitated the preparation and review of the 23 BSED and BEED graduates aspiring to conquer the 2024 Licensure Examination this September 29, 2024. Mr. Oliver C. Cabarubbias, a STELA Graduate of Batch 2016, now serving the University of Baguio as one of the Fitness and Wellness Instructors tackled the review on Music, Arts, PE, and Health concepts from 9:00 – 10:00 in the morning.

This was followed by a one-hour comprehensive session about General English and Communication Arts with Mr. Fred Florenz O. Abastillas. Mr. Abastillas belonged to the 2018 Batch of STELA Graduates under the Program BSED English and is now working as an English Instructor at Baguio Central University. During his stay at the University, he was crowned as Mr. UB in 2017 and Mr. PE in 2015. Unleashing his communication skills, his group also bagged the Champion Award in the UB Debate Competition.

Completing the morning session of intensive review, the examinees gained more insights on General Education from Mr. Lexter S. Eligio – a member of Batch 2015 who recently joined STELA as one of its faculty members. He is also an active member of the Private Education Assistance Committee Training Unit as an Elementary Trainer.

Inspiring community growth through research, the 2nd STELA Colloquium, themed ‘Meaningful Collaboration Through Research,’ provided a platform for alumni and students to connect, share insights, and learn from one another. An alumni entry was registered to the Communication Research Cluster, competing against four other research projects submitted by BA Communication students. The research titled ‘The Lived Experiences of Mobile Phone Filmmakers’ submitted by BA Comm Alumni Via Angelika P. Cadiente, Katrine P. Dumling, Krizia Mae C. Pagusan, Charisse Kate C. Ricardo, and Rainbow Kezia A. Rivera, which evaluated the advantages, challenges, and factors influencing mobile phone choice in filmmaking, was able to land Third Place in the said Colloquium.

The STELA Colloquium was initiated by Dr. Vilma W. Deponio, STELA RAP, while the LET Review was spearheaded by Dr. Julius C. Simon the STELA Review Coordinator.

Indeed, alumni engagement in these events not only provided broader exposure but also strengthened alumni connections to the very department that shaped them into the professionals they are today. This deepened bond reflects a lasting commitment to the UB STELA community, fostering continued growth and a meaningful impact on society. Together, we continue to create a powerful STELA Comm”We”nity.
