WOMENtor Year 5 Showcases Alumni Mentorship

On March 6, 2026, the University of Baguio held its annual WOMENtor seminar, spearheaded by the program;s founder, maria Christina Ponce Garcia, in collaboration with the members of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Baguio Sunflower. This year marked the program’s 5th year with a them, “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas.” In support of the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration, UB continues to promote initiatives that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), while reinforcing SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

The day was filled with energy, inspiration, and meaningful conversations as young women across the nine schools of the university explored what it truly means to lead with courage, wisdom, and heart—just like the babaylans of the past.

Along with the mentors of JCI Baguio Sunflower are alumni of the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA), bringing a wealth of experiences that showed how their service extends far beyond their chosen professions. They shared stories of their own journeys—the challenges they faced, the lessons they learned, and the moments that shaped them into the leaders they are today. These mentors showed the core values a UBian graduate should have by following their passions with confidence and providing service. Through the mentoring session, they reminded everyone that a woman is an empowered being—they are capable, resilient, compassionate, and someone who strives to lead with purpose. They also highlighted the role of women as lifting others up, sharing knowledge, and being a source of support and encouragement.

By the end of the program, the students left with the motivation to pursue their dreams and a sense of belonging, inspired by the women who continue to lead, nurture, and empower. WOMENtor 2026 was not just a seminar- it was a celebration of connection, mentorship, and the power of women as agents of change and leaders of today.
