Moving Forward: UB Political Science Interns at 2026 Baguio’s Resiliency Summit

The University of Baguio Political Science Interns Under the School of Teachers and Liberal Arts Participated in the Public Consultation for the 2026 Baguio Moving Forward Summit: Localizing Global Goals for a Resiliency of Councillor Yangot, held on February 19, 2026, at the Venus Parkview Hotel, Baguio City.

The public consultation started at 9 o’clock in the morning till 4:30 in the afternoon, providing a full-day platform for inclusive dialogue on the city’s future. Aside from the interns, barangay officials, some stakeholders, and various city offices and agencies attended the consultation. This special gathering emphasized the importance of community involvement in local governance and policy-making.

Councilor Yangot started the opening remarks and then proceeded to the presentation of proposed ordinances. The whole-day forum tackled ten different ordinances authored by prominent members of the Baguio City Council: Hon. Leandro Yangot, Hon. John Rey Mananeng, Hon. Edison Bilog, Hon. Jose Molintas, Hon. Paolo Salvosa and Hon. Fred L. Bagbagen.

The ordinances tackled centred in the session focused mainly on the themes of cultural and historical preservation, gender and child protection education and youth development, civic values and ethical standards, and transparency and accountability. Wherein, in between each reading of ordinances, an open forum is opened and inputs and suggestions are raised, noted and being discussed and debated by the proponents and the public audience that encourages active public engagement.

For the political science interns, this experience provided real-world exposure to legislative processes and public policy consultation. The experience helped them enhance their knowledge on how ordinances are crafted, debated and refined through public consultations for the need and betterment of the city.

This action done by the government of Baguio is another step towards a transparent, equitable and sustainable Baguio.
