“Synergy in Action: Advancing Quality Education and Sustainable Partnerships through STELA’s Tripartite Consultation”

The School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) of the University of Baguio successfully held its annual Tripartite Meeting on October 17, 2025, at the UB Centennial Hall, gathering more than one hundred participants representing faculty members, alumni, students, parents, and industry partners. The event served as a dynamic platform for dialogue and collaboration focused on reviewing and refining the Program Educational Objectives (PEOs), Program Outcomes (POs), and Graduate Attributes of STELA’s academic programs. Through this consultation, the University reaffirmed its commitment to curriculum innovation, lifelong learning, and stakeholder collaboration, ensuring that its programs remain relevant, inclusive, and aligned with global educational standards.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Antonio D. Mangaliag emphasized that education thrives through collaboration and shared vision. He reminded everyone that the Tripartite Meeting is not just a formality but an essential conversation that bridges academia and the real world. By listening to the perspectives of employers, practitioners, parents, students, and alumni, STELA ensures that its curriculum remains relevant, responsive, and transformative in preparing future educators and leaders. “Education is not created in isolation. It is a collaborative endeavor.” His message resonates with the idea that true educational excellence is built through collaboration, reflection, and shared responsibility.

Representatives from various partner institutions contributed to the discussions, including Pines International Academy, Department of Education – Baguio City Science National High School, Philippine Science High School, CAR, University of Baguio High School, Saint Louis Pacdal, Dominican Elementary School, and Elpidio Quirino Elementary School Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO), Regional News Group (RNG) Luzon, Love Radio 95.1 FM, City Social Welfare and Development Office, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, CAR, Loyalty Lending Investors Corporation,. Their active participation provided invaluable perspectives on 21st-century competencies, language education trends, and professional standards. The presence of media, education, and civic sectors reflected the University’s broad network of partnerships that support academic excellence, community engagement, and inclusive development.

Throughout the consultation, faculty members, alumni, and students worked together in focused discussions, evaluating program outcomes, teaching methodologies, and the alignment of learning objectives with real-world applications. Industry representatives highlighted the importance of skills alignment, employability, and experiential learning, while alumni shared reflections on their transition to the workplace. Collectively, their insights helped identify opportunities to further enhance curriculum design, research engagement, and extension activities that respond to the dynamic needs of education and allied industries.

The Tripartite Meeting generated meaningful recommendations for program enhancement, emphasizing the need for a more adaptive, future-ready curriculum and stronger industry-academe linkages. Stakeholders commended STELA for fostering a culture of shared responsibility and open dialogue, a model of participatory academic governance that promotes continuous improvement and institutional accountability.

In alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Tripartite Meeting embodied SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting responsive curriculum development and lifelong learning advocacy. It also reflected SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through its focus on employability, skills alignment, and career-readiness. Furthermore, the event exemplified SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering strong collaboration between the University, the community, and industry stakeholders in advancing shared educational objectives.

Through this meaningful convergence of ideas, experiences, and partnerships, STELA continues to uphold the University of Baguio’s vision of developing competent, ethical, and globally competitive graduates.
