The University of Baguio School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) values the objective of the university to advocate sustainable programs for the community and the environment, and the school objective to contribute significantly to environmental programs and community development by extending help.

In support of the University’s Community Outreach Initiatives and the UB C.A.R.E.S. Program, the STELA faculty members provided help in the most recent outreach endeavor at Apolinario Mabini Elementary School.
Titled “Brushstrokes of Brilliance: Painting a Brighter Future for Apolinario Mabini Elementary School”, members of the faculty of the various STELA programs participated in a school-wide revitalization program for the host school last April 12, 2025

The program started at 9:00 AM on Saturday with the courtesy call headed by Mr. Norman Patiang – the outreach coordinator of UB-STELA.

Faculty Volunteers were divided into various groups. Simultaneous outreach activities were held including clearing, painting, cleaning, and gardening. One group was designated to assist in wall repainting, another took charge of ground sweeping and gardening, while one group also dedicated time for wash area cleaning. Several male faculty members also volunteered to assist in trimming overgrown tree branches.
The sense of unity and service was evident as the instructors did their tasks. Dr. Rhoda Carbonell, Program Chair of the Psych program, quipped “Volunteer work is the great equalizer. Ngayon, wala munang posisyon.” True enough, the spirit of volunteerism was seen all throughout the activity, with each faculty member enjoying the task on hand.
The faculty was joined by the officers of the STELA Student Body, led by their adviser, Mr. Lee Nico Emiliano. Also present in the activity were Ms. Violeta Apiles, STELA Alumni Coordinator, and select UB Alumni from different batches who shared their support, truly making the activity a community effort.
The program was concluded at 12:00 PM by the outreach coordinator. With the success of this event, the volunteers and organization is committed to conduct more outreach programs to fulfill the objectives of the institution.
This collaborative initiative of the faculty, student body, and alumni is a testament to UB STELA’s commitment to service and that small acts of kindness may have a lasting impact.
