School of Teacher Education & Liberal Arts

The School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) is the home for students who want to make language and literature, political science, psychology, humanities and music, and communication their main field of study. Future early childhood and adolescent educators and instructors are also housed in STELA. Our alumni used their BA and BS programs to study law and medicine, while some have furthered their studies with related MA and PhD degrees!

Programs Offered

Boasting alumni with national and international recognition in education and the arts, language and literature, humanities and social sciences, students at the School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts are armed with research inquiry and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative approaches to pedagogical, sociopolitical, and cultural fields of study.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

A degree program that studies human behavior and mental processes. The program covers various areas such as abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, and social psychology. Students gain practical experience through research projects, internships, and other hands-on learning opportunities.

Bachelor of Secondary Education

A degree program that prepares students to become licensed high school teachers. The program covers various areas such as subject matter expertise, pedagogy, curriculum design, and classroom management. Students gain practical experience through teaching practicums, classroom observations, and other hands-on learning opportunities.

Doctor of Education

A graduate degree program that provides advanced training in the field of education. The program focuses on developing leaders in education who can bring about change and innovation in their respective fields. Students study various areas such as educational leadership, policy and administration, curriculum development, and instructional design.

Doctor of Philosophy in Development Education

A graduate degree program that focuses on the study of education within the context of social and economic development. The program covers various areas such as international development, community development, policy and administration, curriculum development, and instructional design.

Master in Public Administration

A graduate degree program that provides advanced training in public management and policy. The program focuses on developing leaders who can effectively manage and implement policies and programs in the public sector. Students study various areas such as public policy analysis, budgeting and finance, organizational behavior, and leadership.

Master of Arts in Education

A graduate degree program that focuses on the study of theories and practices related to education. The program is designed for educators who want to deepen their knowledge and skills in teaching and learning, curriculum development, and educational leadership. Students can choose from various specializations such as early childhood education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, and special education.
